As restrictions surrounding the coronavirus in Southern California are slowly lifted and we begin to return to regular day to day life what does this mean for the future of the wedding industry?

Recently the wedding industry has taken a huge blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire industry has basically come to a complete stop. The safer-at-home orders have swept the across the country forcing couples to cancel, postpone and reschedule their wedding day celebrations. Most couples spend 6 months to a year planning for their special day. Now that special day and date has to change and planning starts once again. Platinum Pro Portables is working closely with all of our clients to assist with their needs. We are all in this together.

Not only are brides and grooms being forced to change their plans to tie the knot. Vendors and venues are struggling to stay in business. From venues, event and wedding planners, caterers, party rentals, DJ’s, officiants, equipment rental companies, tables and chairs, linens, florists, other food and beverage, generators, restrooms and more. Everyone is feeling the full effects of the current pandemic situation. Companies are having to deal with refunding clients who have cancelled or postponed indefinitely. Some clients are requesting to change their date and asking the vendors to keep their deposits and payments as credit for their future date. At Platinum Pro Portables we understand that dealing with the current situation is placing stress and uncertainty on many people. We are working with all of our clients to do what is best for them at this time.

As some states completely reopen, others like California have taken a slower, more cautious approach to reopening their economies. As essential businesses and workers continue to provide the necessities to the population some cities and counties such as Los Angeles County have continued to remain and extend their safer-at-home measures with no end date. California governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor or Los Angeles Eric Garcetti have made it clear that they are taking this situation seriously and seem to have some of the strictest measures in place compared to the whole United States as the total deaths has surpassed 60,000 as of May 15, 2020. Areas like Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Ventura, Plamdale, Lancaster, Antelope Valley and more are taking a quicker approach to reopening going against the recommendations of the states governor and county mayors.The worry of the overwhelming effects and the future caused by keeping the economy shut down seems to be starting to out way the danger of the virus in many peoples opinions. The U.S. economy has just begun to see the effects of the shut downs. Only time will tell.

With all of this going on and information changing day to day, what changes are to come for the wedding and special event industries? Our TEAM at Platinum Pro Portables is dedicating our focus and energy to forecasting changes coming to the industries we services. We are continuously planning and preparing for the future. Continued education is very important to all of us and we take these issues very seriously.

We will most definitely see an increase in sanitation and sanitary practices. More places to wash our hands and hand sanitizer dispensers are already becoming more and more common around Santa Clarita and throughout Los Angeles County. Hand wash stations are becoming even more popular. I’m confident that these additions will be the new normal at weddings and all other events. A big question we have been getting is will social distancing be expected at these intimate gatherings between family and friends? Will face masks and face coverings be required at venues? Hard to say what will be implemented. I do think it goes without saying that no mater what happens more restrictions and higher levels of sanitary practices are coming to all industries. The question does arise, how far is too far? How much will the government try to impose on these very personal and intimate event? Venues and vendors are already creating new procedures and processes for how they will operate post coronavirus. Our TEAM has been in direct communication with local venues and planners while continuing to make changes to the way we operate and do business. We are keeping up to date on all changes being made on federal, state and local levels. We want to make sure we are prepared for anything so that we may best serve our clients needs whether it be the wedding industry, studios, film and production, festivals or construction sites.
